The wary traveler would do well to avoid dark, misty pools or silent river beds deep in the forests of Gray Realm, for there the Kiemensch are sure to dwell. Some distant cousin of the fair mermaid, the Kiemensch is a cruel and alien creature that abducts those poor souls who wander into its territory, either for servitude or consumption.

Combat:
Kiemensch are naturally very strong and have sharp teeth and claws at their disposal, but often when they are engaged in combat they will defer to stealth and surprise tactics. They may try to blend in with the river bed and flora, or they may release a natural ink into the water to keep themselves from sight. Kiemensch also tend to command a small amount of illusory magics which they may use to their advantage. Once per day they may use the following spell-like abilities: ghost sound, obscuring mist, and minor dark chaos. The pool or river domain of a Kiemensch is sometimes accompanied by the presence of will 'o' wisps, believed by some to be the ghosts of the Kiemensch's many victims.

Habit/Society:
Kiemensch are highly territorial and therefore often live alone. Though they mainly stick to their pools and stagnant river beds, once a year the Kiemench will swim out to the brackish sea waters to convene with the King Kiemensch, the patriarchal leader of the species, in order to discuss matters of importance in their strange society. This meeting will last between two weeks and a month, during which the Kiemensch will also spawn and compete for inland territory.
